More Miscellaneous Pets

After much anticipation, Dylan's harvester ants arrived in the mail today. He had gotten the ant farm for Christmas, and it comes with a voucher for free ants. Most of the ants arrived alive. Only four or five came "pre-dead," as Dylan puts it. Both boys were ecstatic when they were moving around in their new home. The blue gel is both what they tunnel in and their food source. Before anyone asks- no, the kids can't open up the plastic container. No little buggies will be getting out on my watch.

Blue- http://shopping.discovery.com/product-60059.html?hp=HPA_Left_IndoorFun_AntHabitat

Here's the link for the ant farm. The Discovery Channel Store has a whole bunch of cool toys. The next thing that I want to get for "the kids" is the frog habitat. WOO HOO!

Monty- they bite too. There is a giant warning on the container they come in to be sure not to touch them. They advise people to refrigerate them for an hour or so to slow them down before putting them into the ant farm. So far, the worst I've seen is Jordan shaking the ever living hell out of the container. Dizzy, pissed off, biting ants...hmmmmm

..and presumably they don't keep living forever or the gel runs out and then they starve to death or something. Sorry, I have to think the whole cycle through...just me.

Sarah: I love your second photo. Not much a fan of ants, though.
