The wratch of irony

So, sorry about not being around for a bit, but I do have a good excuse. You see, my house was hit by lightning on our anniversary (ooof...bad omen), and caused this damage:

  • blew the top of the chimney off the house, sending block all over the yard, in my garden, and across the street to the neighbor's yard
  • knocked out power...which was the reason why our food in the fridge is bad
  • fried our DSL filters
  • killed our phones downstairs
  • slaughtered our stereo system
  • ruined our satellite receiver
  • flodded my kitchen
  • uprooted my Peony, Russian Sage, a nd a couple other plants
  • washed out my driveway
  • scared the kids
So, I am updating via my sister's computer. Please be patient while I get my stuff together. Feel free to feel sorry for me and send donations.

Seriously, we were VERY lucky that those were the only damages. Our house did not catch fire, everyone is safe, and from what I saw, pretty much everything else is ok. We had a candle lit dinner on our anniversary because of no power. Romantic, huh? Mark, me, Dylan eating hotdogs by candlelite.

This weekend Mark and I are in Boston with Lauren. The storm followed us here, dumping rain on us the entire time. However, when we return, I will post pictures.

Well, you could have been dead so no harm done really. Think what a good story that'll make in the years to come.... "do you remember the night I learned to cook hotdogs....."

I'm glad to hear that you're all safe. Wow. The scariest part? The fried dsl filters.

So sorry about all the damage, but what a wonderfully scary collection of verbs: fried, slaughtered, killed, etc.

I'm relieved you're alright :)

What, you didn't like flodded? What is flodded? Certainly a quick girl like me wouldn't have made a typo...right?

Yes, I am thankful that what was ruined was not all bad. The PC problems went a bit deeper than originally thought, but after PC Restore and hours of reinstallations, my PC is like it came straight out of the box. Nice, huh? I think so.

I've had to do the pc restore several times over the past few years. lost tons of stuff and, yes, it took hours and hours to reinstall, but you're right...that straight out of the box, runs like a dream, is mighty addicting. I'm thinking of doing it again, even though I don't have to.
